Your statement made me think of the protagonist from the very first Xanth novel, "A Spell for Chameleon." Bink, his name was. His magic power was that he could not be harmed by magic. This basically made him appear extremely lucky most of the time in his day-to-day life, while it appeared that he actually posessed no magical ability.

It's basically a stupid, stupid story.
