I can give you a perspective on what it's like in Australia.

I have taught quite a few home schoolers (I'm a dance aand theatre teacher) and I believe they actually have to take quite a few outside classes for the social value. That's why I get a lot of them coming to drama or dance classes.

I know that one girl I taught for a couple of years always had to be doing at least 2 outside activities, eg, dancing and hockey, activities which require socialisation.

I think it's of double value, because not only was she getting social interaction, but she was also learning things that it would be near impossible to teach in a home environment(one on one)

Other than that, I don't really know.
