He can't be (or probably isn't) a Spring Onion, because Spring Onions go well with "Spring Chickens" and by association, you KNOW just how bright and spritely a Spring Chicken is. Right? So, even though I can't recall the exact details for what the Forgive-O-Matic sales dude looks like, I'll reckon he's a Leek. (Get it? A slow leek, or a fast-talking running leek, etc.? Uh, nevermind.)

AUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Not you... too!

All the cookbooks I have keep using various names to describe Green Onions. Sometimes it's given a different name in different chapters of the same cookbook. To this day, I haven't made up my mind for what to call them. Whenever my Dave is using a recipe that calls for...uh... a chopped/minced version of whatever this item is properly called [i.e., UPC Produce Code item # 4068], we have to wonder whether the author intended a vegetable that looked like Leeks or Chives instead.

Thus, in order to prevent impending mass culinary chaos and the Death of Civilization As We Know It, please be sure to answer this very, VERY important $64,000 poll question:

"In your regional part of the world, what do you call a young onion plant harvested before its root bulb is developed?"

a. Green onion
b. Spring onion
c. Scallions
