Nope. I don't install 'em. I did once, on another machine, and later ripped it all out and reloaded the CMOS. Mainly because of the above reason.

I hear you, er, read you. If I'da spent another $50, I would've gotten a P133 instead of a machine that went obsolete as it was riding to my house.
I traipsed around the Intel and Phoenix sites a bit. What I gathered there tells me that I am extremely fortunate that the puzzling boot-to-a-floppy situation is the extent of my problem. Seems the most common result of installing a larger-than-2G drive in one of these antiques is a total lockup. So I'll be happy with 1.6G unaccessible on the drive of a system that, overall, performs a lot better with the faster drive. Makes me want to get that new mommieboard, brains, and processor sooner than I'd planned. But I won't. Gotta have SOMETHING to whine about!
