Spanish, of course, is an obvious choice, since it is easy to find textbooks, and I could probably get my Spanish-speaking friends to help with pronunciation. (Spanish and French, by the way, are the only languages taught at my school.) > I am also considering studying different languages that I don't have as much exposure to, such as Latin, Greek, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Hebrew, and Arabic. (Maybe not all at once, though! :-) )
Most of those languages are ones I have in the wings for learning too. :-)
Spanish should be relatively easy for you, since you've studied so much French. I took up to Spanish III and French III in high school, and most of what I learned in one class about sentence structure and so on was transferrable over to the other. I'm assuming the same goes for Latin, Italian, and Portuguese as well, but since I haven't studied those I couldn't tell you for sure.
> So, the question I have is: how do I go about learning a new language? I have tried several times, with computer programs and books from the library, but I can't seem to get motivated enough to buckle down and use the resources when I finally have them. A big factor, of course, might be that I have so much other school work to do, but I am still interested. Any suggestions?
I'll add my offer of help with Spanish to those already given. I don't know that I could actually teach you with ordered lessons, since Spanish I was several years ago and I don't have my textbook anymore. But, I could probably answer any questions you might have, if you could find such a textbook.
