Hurrah for languages. The best tool in learning a new one is a person. A person willing to help teach you a language can do so much more than books and computer programs. They can answer your questions. They can speak.

The second best tool is speech. If you read the language, you only get half of the experience. By hearing it spoken, you form a much clearer picture of it in your head. This can be done alone. Read aloud everything you come across in the book until you get a feel for how it sounds. Practice conversations aloud. It's probably best not to do this in public. If you're really feeling brave, record yourself speaking.

As for motivation, try putting aside a part of the week to learning the language. It won't interfere with your schedule, and force yourself to make a start then. Pretty soon you'll be hooked.
