The media loved him. He brought a new angle to a boring primary. They portrayed it as a close race even though Super Tuesday was a done deal.
He drew most of his support from moderate (read:liberal) Republicans and Democratic crossovers-voters who planned to vote for Al Gore in the general election, but switched over for the primaries.
So yeah, New Hampshirans don't know what they're talking about either. This election has been so atypical it's messed up every predictable voting pattern.
