So why should I have to be able to drive a car with manual transmission when I can always drive one with automatic? Not to say that I wouldn't like to learn, but saying that manual transmission driving is a skill everyone should know seems kind of presumptuous. > > I only learned how to drive a manual when I had to. At one point during one summer, the only car available to drive was our family's old VW bus, so I hopped in with my dad and rode over to the University of Dayton Arena's parking lot, and learned how to drive the thing. That was probably the most difficult vehicle I could have learned a stickshift in (excluding a schoolbus or an 18-wheeler, maybe) but that was good for me. I've never had any trouble driving a manual since. > Gri"Hi, I'm Grishny"shny
I suppose I could rest my case on that. Think about a dire emergency. In the event that you *must* go somewhere, and the only car available has a stick shift, you need to learn to drive one. Like Grishny says, it's no trouble. How"...if I can learn it..."ard
