The recipe for icing to cover one standard Christmas fruitcake:

Beat 4 egg whites until stiff (the egg whites, not you, although this is debatable. It can take a while). Gradually add one kilo/2.2 pounds of icing sugar. I don't know if you call it something else in the USA, it's that very powdery sugar you make icing out of (duh). When combined, stir in one tablespoon of lemon juice and a few drops of glycerine.

Traditional Christmas fruitcake, by the way, has all sorts of things in it. The recipe I have includes currants, raisins, dates, ginger, candied fruit peel, glace cherries, grated orange & lemon rind, rum, orange juice, almond essence, vanilla essence, almonds, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, mixed spices, butter, brown sugar, treacle, and eggs. Whew. It might be easier to say what *isn't* in a fruit cake.

I hate fruit cake. I've never even made one. I just have this recipe.
