I think it's sickening anyway. Even if this were well intentioned, which is certainly plausible, it's no excuse to start another junk email campaign, which only serves to annoy. Calls for prayer, sympathy, support, etc, should be conducted in proper, respectful forums. Junk email is junk email, no matter which way you slice it.

There's also the additional concern of giving this event exposure in the first place. It is my belief that this only encourages others on the brink to go down the same path. Roger Ebert wrote an excellent article about it, which I can only applaud. The link is given below.
