What's Rule Six?
> I think, though, that good music has nothing to do with /when/ it was produced. Rather, in every decade, there is /some/ music that is excellent. The excellent music is the stuff that people keep; everything else gets forgotten. So when we remember music from a long time ago, we only remember the good stuff. That's why when we think of classical music we think of Bach and Mozart and the other "great" composers rather than the mediocre composers who must have existed but whose music wasn't good enough to remember.
Excellent point...very good point indeed. Hmm...unfortunately, when they make PURE 90's cd's in a few years, they'll probably consist of Britney Spears and boy bands, rather than truly talented musicians who can actually sing. What gets me about all those singers is that people are giving them Grammy awards, and when they go up for their acceptance speeches, it's like they're saying, "Yes, and I'd like to thank Max Martin and Diane Warren for writing all my songs, ProTools for helping my singing sound on key, and all the parents in the world for giving their kids enough money to buy my CD's." I dunno, but they're all so bad. And it upsets me...I've cried and lost sleep at night thinking about how famous these people are. IT COULD BE ME! *sob sob* I write poetry all the time, so I could make songs out of them! I can rule the pop scene! The teenyboppers are MINE!!!
