From what I know of it, soccer--even the outdoor variety--is a very dangerous game. Soccer was the fall sport of choice at both my high school and college (neither has a football program), and although I seldom attended any games besides the "Turkey Bowl," I heard about all kinds of injuries.

I had a roommate one year who played soccer for his collegian group (intramural), and he was constantly returning to the room after games with cuts and bruises. One soccer player who was in one of my classes got injured during a game and spent the rest of the semester in a wheelchair. Another fellow I knew was attempting to head-butt the ball while another player was trying to kick it, and ended up with his jaw broken and wired shut.

This is why, besides the fact that I am an awkward geek with no physical dexterity or coordination, I do not play soccer.
