Seeing as how various people have been responding to older messages, it's my turn!

In the past year, I've been checking out www.animeondvd.com -- from references there (and with a friend of mine who has almost all the EVA toys on his desk), I've been slowly getting into more animé.

The way I decide what I'd like to get is by reviewing sites like animeondvd.com or by asking other people who have some idea about what I like. Everything I've watched I've either borrowed or purchased.

You might want to check netflix.com for renting DVDs. Something like US$20 a month lets you check out up to four discs at a time. There's a program called NetFlix Light that's half price. Light only lets you check out two discs at a time.

Available on DVD in Region 1 (which includes Canada and the United States) are the following animé titles I've seen:

_Ghost in the Shell_ is a cyberpunkish movie that is similar to _Blade Runner_. In a world where cybernetic and bionic implants are commonplace, people question where the dividing line is between mankind and machine. See the comments at tthe link below.

"Neon Genesis Evangelion" (disc 2 is to be released on 11/21/2000, there should be either six or eight discs total) is a television series that starts out as your typical "Giant Robots Defend the Earth and Japan from Giant Monsters From Outer Space" cartoon, then suddenly becomes something More. It's best worth watching cold, knowing nothing more than what I've just typed. Although I have watched disc one and have disc two on order, I'm planning on waiting until I have all the discs before watching any more.

"Cowboy Bebop" is a six-disc set and all six are available now. Each disc has four episodes. "Cowboy Bebop" features a small cast of intergalactic bounty hunters trying to make a living. It's fun and nice, but the various characters have troubled backgrounds and dangerous secrets.

"Record of Lodoss War" is a thirteen-episode high-powered fantasy series. Featuring knights, wizards, dragons, "Record of Lodoss War" was said to be based on a Japanese version of the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. Find out more at the link below

The next thing I'm getting is "Serial Experiments Lain", a televion series that's part X-Filesish, part shadow conspiracy, part Matrix (from Shadowrun). I don't know much else besides what I've read at the Animé on DVD website. However, I do have the boxed set on order.

_Princess Mononoke_ has been discussed earlier on this thread. While not as impressed as I thought I would've been, I am planning on purchasing this when it is released on 12/19/00 or 12/26/00. I probably was caught up in the hype surrounding this movie. I will revisit the movie in about a month.
