There's nothing like sailing. I took sailing in college and absolutely loved it, even though my partner and I completely stunk at it. We sailed catamarans on Perdido Bay in between Alabama and the Florida panhandle, near Pensacola. There were eleven boats (e.g. 22 students) in our class. We had several sailing regattas (i.e. boat races) and the best we ever did was seventh place. But it was awesome. Even capsizing was kind of fun, but we only did that once. The teacher, Coach Martin, sped around in a motor boat, yelling things like "PULL THE TILLER," "YOU'RE IN IRONS!" and "NO, *PULL* IT!" I have great memories of that class.

There's nothing like sailing with people who don't know what they're doing. When I was, oh, thirteen or fourteen, my family spent a week at a camp on Kelly's Island in Lake Erie. My parents took one sailing lesson and then decided to go out by themselves, and I went with them. Big mistake. Well, the wind was blowing north, *away* from the island, and they couldn't get the boat back in. We were probably out there for three hours or more, trying to get back to the shore, which always appeared exactly the same distance away no matter what we did. Finally the camp rescue boat came out and hauled us back to shore. I'll never go sailing with my parents again.
