Well, some of the prices were better back then. Some are close to the same now (not if you figure in inflation, though).

> I was looking in a 1966 Sears catalog the other day and noticed that prices were better back then.
> In those days you could buy a 26 inch bike with a tank, two headlights, luggage carrier, and coaster brakes for $37.45 plus shipping.
> A western style, factory blocked hat made of 100% wool felt was $3.99, and men's "perma-prest(sic) causal slacks" ranged from $6.70 down to $4.77.

Clothes were definitely cheaper. I wonder what this is in today's prices. Where is an inflation calculator?

> A roll of 35mm Kodacolar film was $1.47 and genuine calfskin men's dress shoes were $13.77.

I just bought 4 rolls of 200 speed Kodak film for $9. This was on sale but a little more than $2 a roll. I'm sure the quality is a little better now, too.

> Wringer washing machines ranged from a low of $63.00 to $124.95 for the top of the line model.
> But a 25 inch color TV ran from $599.95 up to $799.95 depending mainly on the cabinet.

A good 25 inch TV today, no cabinet, will run from $250 to $450. However, "Don't touch that dial," is just a figure of speech, now.

> Their best monaural phonograph was $49.95.
> The Sears Cruisaire, which was really a 125cc Vespa motor scooter, was $355, and mopeds were as low as $189.95.
> $84 would buy you a 10 foot aluminum jon boat, and $110 would put a 3.5 hp outboard motor on it. A trailer to haul it to the lake was $97.50.
> $99.95 would buy you a Winchester model 1200 pump-action 12 gauge shotgun.
> Sears best radial tires went from $40 to $45 dollars depending on the size your car needed.

There is a difference now because the best tires will definitely cost you a lot more. I was able to get some really good tires for our cars for this price, though.

> They would sell you a voltage regulator for your car for $4.59 and a rebuilt generator was $8.95 with trade-in. A new car battery was $21.45 for the top of the line, but other models were less than seven bucks!

I wish I could remember how much the Sears Battery was that I bought 3 years ago. It wasn't top of the line but I thought the price was reasonable. I want to say $28 but I have no idea if that is right.
