What is your political philosophy? posted by MarkN on Saturday, November 11, 2000, at 17:50:31:
Excellent. Turns out I'm a Moderate Populist Conservative. Whatever the heck *that* means. Looks like I should have voted for Dick Cheney. For some reason, he's at the top of my list. John McCain, the guy I actually *liked*, is third. Al Gore comes in a scary fourth, only 9 points below the top. Yeesh. And the guy I actually voted for, Ralph Nader (it was a protest vote--I knew he didn't have a chance) is all-the-way-down-at-the-bottom. Excellent.
As for the religion one, well, I took that twice. The first time I filled it out with what I actually *do* believe, and not surprisingly, I got 100% in Atheism/Agnostic and Humanist. A few surprises: Liberal Quaker (?) Reform Judaism, and several other non-Christian or sort-of Christian beliefs beat out Mainline or Liberal Protestant, the religion I was technically born into. All the way at the bottom, Jehovah's Witness! Yay! I hate those guys. Anybody who bugs me on a Saturday at my house to talk about religion *better* end up at the bottom of my list.
The second time, I went back and picked out what I *wish* were true. These results were a little more interesting. Sikhism came in first, followed by Mainline to Liberal Protestant. But Sikhism was 100%, and the Protestant one at only 73% However, I read the description of Sikhism and it doesn't seem to really jive with the answers I gave to the questionaire. For instance, I didn't click on any of the reincarnation answers, and yet these guys seem to believe in reincarnation.
A few other interesting notes on the second go-round: New Age, Christian Science, LDS, Hindu, Liberal Quaker, and Mahayana Buddhist all beat out Mainline to Conservative Protestant, the religion my parents *currently* practice. Atheism/Agnostic scored only a 33, and was second to last in rank (three at 33, two at 22). And at the bottom? Jehovah's Witness AGAIN. I really *do* hate those guys.
