the Virgin Islands: part seven posted by Howard on Wednesday, November 8, 2000, at 17:52:04:
> We arrived at St. John and stayed only long enough for a tender to take a group of passengers ashore. They bought a tour that included a tour of Virgin Islands Nationa Park plus a ferry boat ride to St. Thomas. Once that was done, we sailed to Crown Bay on St. Thomas. We took a taxi into Charlotte Amalie. It looked like Bourbon Street in New Orleans. With a half dozen cruise ships in port, there was a huge mob of wild shoppers. They were buying everything from rum to diamonds. WMM bought linens. A tablecloth and napkins that would cost $75 to $100 at home went for about 30 bucks on St. Thomas. And no sales tax. I don't remember paying sales tax anywhere. > After my feet died, we went back to the ship and hit the hot tub, overate for a while, and then went up to deck twelve to watch the Veendam sail for San Juan. The ship was on the Atlantic side of Puerto Rico during the night, so we could feel a little motion. The next day we reluctently disembarked, took a cab to the airport and flew home. It was a long flight and my arms really got tired. > Howard
