Officials thought it would be easier for them to read bigger font. However, this made is so that the boxes did not match up, and they have reason to believe that voters marked the Buchanan box because it was near the Gore box. Yes, it's their (meaning the election officials in that county) own fault, but should a whole county worth of voters pay for the consequences? I don't think so.

People who complain afterwards suddenly--now that their candidate appears to be losing--should be held very suspect.

The ballots look like the ballots we had back in Texas. There's a dividing line between each political party and an arrow pointing towards the hole to punch. The ballots aren't misaligned. What people did was follow the dividing line across rather than the arrow.

All the voters had to do was look over the sample ballot that was mailed out to them, read the instructions in the booth, or ask one of the people who worked in the polling places for assistance or clarification. The ballots were also approved by the county supervisor of elections, a Democrat.

This type of ballot had been used in previous elections as well, according to a report at CNN.

A vote cast is a vote cast. If some 2500-odd people can't even follow simple instructions to vote for whom they want, I'm glad we live in a republic and not a democracy.

What I find more interesting is that over 19,000 ballots in Palm Beach were tossed out because the voters chose more than one candidate!
