No, seriously, I don't understand it either. I think it's cool you have a dog named Sam, and I think I'd still think so -- perhaps more so -- if you had specifically named him AFTER me. Maybe it's just the connotation of the word "dog" -- as in such expressions as "ugly as a dog" and "you sorry dog" -- that people are thinking of, instead of a simple name of arguably the most personable animal in the animal kingdom.
