I read a detective story once (or is "police procedural" the term I mean?) where the heroes, after an exciting chase, catch the villain when he takes a bad turn and finds that there's nothing ahead but a big drop. After the traditional "why did you do it" conversation, the hero instructs his offsider to "throw the book at him".

And his offsider does.
