I've only ever owned one cat, but that's enough to make me go "huh? what?" about this whole "cats regard the entire human race with a sneering, scornful Stephen-like loathing" idea. The *worship* I get from my cat has to be seen to be believed. She's so dependent it's almost embarrassing, and she's like that with everyone as long as they don't scare her.
