Along with what Shadowfax suggested, make sure that your friend knows you are there for them, whether they need a friend, advice, or just someone to listen. Based on the fact that they were able to confide in you already, you have already gained their trust. Don't lose it. Be honest with them and let them know that you aren't going to abandon them. Be very clear that you aren't going to be able to solve things by yourself and don't try to do so.

Finally, for yourself, be prepared to go through a lot of emotions with this. Stand by as a faithful friend despite feeling worn down or under appreciated at times. And remember that it is not your responsibility to fix everything involved, because that could ruin you. Good luck and God Bless.

I would really appreciate any advice any of you could give me, since I really need to help this person.
