We already have the right spot, and now we're designing the house, and hopefully by the end of this year, we have our license and then we can start building....

I'm confident that you will check back sooner or later and this will be waiting for you.
Yes, I wondered where you went. I always enjoyed your posts and especially your comments about things in Europe. It's still on my someday list.
Building a house is major trama. My daughter and her husband with their daughter, age 15 moved into a new house last week. It took almost two years to build. They are not rich, but the house makes it sound like they are. They built in on their 135 acre farm. The house is on a hill overlooking a 3.5 acre pond. It has kitchen, sunroom, living room, dining room, office and master bedroom downstairs. Upstairs, their daughter has a suite consisting of a bedroom, study, and a secret room that can only be entered from the walk-in closet. It has a large window overlooking the woods. There is a balcony off the bedroom. Across the hall there is a game room plus a guest bedroom. The house has two fireplaces, a mud room, a store room over the attached garage, three bathrooms, a deck and a patio. There is also a large front porch and full basement. Too much for three people? Maybe, but my wife and I may have to move in with them when we get old.
They have invested 18 years of saving and planning into that house, so I hope it lasts a lifetime. They are very frugle people with no expensive habits, or they could never have done it. Their nephew calls it "the castle in the woods," but it's just a big house.
People who are planning a wedding or designing and building a home, have little free time, so I can understand why you would neglect the internet. However, after things settle down in a year or so, I expect that you will be back. Don't stay away too long.
Howard
