Yeah, comic-book time is funny. Originally Iron Man had his origin in the Korean War, they dropped that element because it has been decided in the Marvel Universe only 10 years have past since the first appearnces of Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron Man, the X-Men, and Spider-Man. And they all first appeard in the 60's. The amount of time Captain America spent trapped in an ice cube after the end of WWII has extended from 18 years to over 50.

Superman fought Nazies during WWII, but DC, to keep him young, decided his rocket crashed in the late sixtes (and they may have updated it again recently).
