I was born in 1933. I remember Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. I remember Pearl Harbor. I remember when Happy Chandler was governor of Kentucky and Joe Lewis was the Heavyweight Champion of the World. I remember when TV sets had no pictures.(they called them radios) In those days, 60 mph was breakneck speed. Movies were all in black and white. Buses and trains stopped at every little town and only about one house in four had a telephone. Air conditioning hadn't been invented yet. Doctors made house calls and charged about $2. A Coke was a nickel, and a hamburger was a dime. Movie tickets were a dime for kids and 20 cents for adults. Clark Gable was on the screen and five cent candybars were in the concession stand.
Glenn Miller played the mucic and Ray Charles was just a boy. Bicycle had fat tires, coaster brakes, one speed and fenders. A headlight on the front fender was standard. Cars wore completely out in 60,000 miles and most roads were two lanes dotted with potholes. Some people still had coal piles, hog pens, and outhouses in the backyard.
What's really funny is that I'm more than twice your age and I don't feel old yet. We used to be limited to a first and second childhood. I'm in my fourth.
