I've continually notice this in the adventure or RPG games that I play: they love to use "game logic," or, really, incompletely thought out plot. Either the author thought explanation was unnecessary or it would have needlessly complicated the story, or maybe even didn't think about it much. In real life, you don't apply every trivial detail to every other one to check for a match, but in the very controlled game environment, you do. Usually, this quirk vexes me until I figure out the answer, at which point I claim to have liked it all along.
