They didn't like the Church of Engalnd because they thought is was decadent. They actually had song during mass, and statues of saints. The Puritans were opposed to this sort of thing (I'm not eve sure if they had pews or if they stood during the whole mass). Plus I was being a bit humorus, but we Americans do tend to romancises the Pilgrims. I suggest reading a history book entitled "Lies my Teacher Told Me", it examens the American Myths (from Chris Colombus, the Pilgrim Fathers, through to the much more recent times) by useing actually historical documents to expose false hoods and over exagerations that are taught in social studies and history classes across the nation every year.
