Even if I'm watching a fluff movie just for entertainment, I always enjoy an unpredictable, "sad" ending. But then again, I don't really like the characters on stuff like that much anyway.

Oh, and if you like letdown endings, the Outer Limits (the new one) is great with those. I'd say the main characters end up dead most of the time, and occasionally the whole planet goes down with 'em.
