There was a rather good movie (or so I thought when I first saw it back in the 80's. I recently reviewed it and discovered that it wasn't so good after all. Things look different to an 11-year old than they do to a 25-year old) based on that book. It was called (naturally) "The Philadelphia Experiment." It was about what happened to two memebers of the crew of the ship that got "dematerialized" in the invisibility experiment. In the movie, they were sucked into a time vortex and came out 50 years in the future, where the time vortex had grown and was threatening to envelope an entire city and eventually the world!
