Wells wrote The Invisible Man, and several sequels in book and movie form were derived from it, including the 1933 movie of the same name as well as the latest attempt with Kevin Bacon. I just wanted to know: in all this time, has ANYONE ever come up with a reasonable SF plot twist to explain why the Invisible Man wouldn't be *blind*?

Well, on the "Invisible Man" TV show on Sci-Fi the light doesn't pass through him but is bent aound him by this silvery stuff called Quicksilver that coats his body. I suppose it is possible the quicksilver also sends some of the light into his eyes, but I'm not sure.

I don't think Marvel Comics ever explained why the Invisible Woman of the Fantastic Four isn't blind, and I don't think DC explained it for the Martian Manhunter.

Ofcourse this is a thousand foot ape question. That is, some people ask why King Kong was interested in the woman, when she was smaller than his thumb. But if your going to buy a thousand foot ape you should be able to just anything else in the story ride. If you already belive a guy can become invisible, why not just accept that he can see?
