I left school 14 years ago, but it seems that you have a gotten a bad deal from what I remember.

My school here in the UK had a six day timetable. That is, on the first day of term, day one was Monday, day two Tuesday etc. The following Monday was day six, with Tuesday the next day one etc. They told us this was because the timetable was so involved a five day one wouldn't accomodate it all. The day ran five one-hour periods with a one-hour lunch and 15 minute break in the morning. Five minutes to get to the next period. We finished 3:40 in the afternoon. We always had quality extra-curricular stuff from what I remember, having been very active in the computer club and role-playing game club.
