Jeff Burton, not Jeff Gordon, was declared the winner at Darlington. His car wound up junk as the result of a wreck that occurred just as rain ended the race just past the halfway point.
Jeff Gordon was right behind and very likely would have won had the weather cooperated. We'll never know for sure. That's why they call it racing.
My vote for the hard luck award goes to Ken Schrader.
