The secret is to go along dressed in really old clothes and looking generally disreputable. And go at a time when there are well-dressed reputable-looking people also there. No salesman will come near you. Once you've had a look at the cars and decided which models you like, go to a car fair where you can buy one direct from the previous owner. It's cheaper, and you don't have to deal with people who apparently evolved directly from reptiles.
