I just saw "Bicentennial Man" for the first time on Sunday. The scene where Andrew replayed Sir's wedding dance with his daughter almost brought a tear to my eye.
Later, when Sir died, and then later after that when Little Miss died, I actually did cry. I couldn't understand why, since I never cry about a movie. I'm always teasing my wife when she does it.
Perhaps it was because I went into the movie with such low expectations. I had read both the short story and the novel prior to seeing it, and I was expecting to be disappointed by it. But I was pleasantly surprised. Although it wasn't 100% true to Asimov's story, I think it effectively captured the spirit of it. Those scenes in the book made me sad, and I think seeing them recreated on screen so well touched my emotions. Go figure. Bicentennial Man gets two thumbs up in my book!
