As soon as I read this post, I smacked myself in the head. The obvious has a tendency to elude me. But what about countries were dogs and other carnivores are eaten? Are they the only food sources available? As for horses, my guess is that it can either be used as transportation (or racing) or food, but not both, as after a lifetime of racing, I would think that a slaughtered horse would have tough and stringy meat, unsuitable for eating. And apparently, using it for racing is more profitable than as food. Non-racing horses would probably be kept by private owners for show or as pets, and they wouldn't slaughter their own pet for meat. Comments?
