As far as comic cats go, you can't go past Horse, the evil-minded farm cat from Footrot Flats. (Which was a very long-running NZ comic strip set on Wal Footrot's farm.) I used to love the animal characters in this strip - although you could see their thoughts etc, they still behaved exactly the way such animals would. Perfect blend of reality and cartoon. The Dog, who was the hero of the strip, may have been able to narrate but he still had a dog mind, not human.
