It's from the novel _So Vile A Sin_ by Ben Aaronovitch and Kate Orman.

I should mention that the bit with the Fat Monster Eater is really only a couple of pages in a wider story.
It's quite an interesting wider story, but when I say wide, I mean wide; there's five books preceding _So Vile A Sin_ in the series, of which two (absolute minimum) are compulsory if you want to have a clue what's going on in SVaS.
It's well worth it, in my opinion, but you might not want to go to the trouble, especially given that the series went out of print just after _So Vile A Sin_ was published and is unlikely ever to be reprinted.
