I have to reply again to this message, because I have found what I believe to be the actual problem.

I was using a corrupted installation of ConSeal PC Firewall, which would attach itself to my network adapter, malfunction, and refuse to let go. Since all TCP/IP traffic had to go through this program, it's no suprise my connection was dropping out randomly.
