Sounds like it's tall and wet. Which is fine for a swimsuit model, but not for grass that needs mowing. You probably have no control over its wetness (unless you have access to a giant Bounty™ paper towel, or can do a sunshine dance), so try mowing more frequently. ...or not, it's your lawn. Do what you want.
Maybe your mower belches grass simply because it's gassy. Try patting or rubbing its back to alleviate this.
