Techno, the verdict

Some people were talking about techno music in the chatroom several days ago and I didn't know what it was. On eric's advice, I've now listened to some on mp3.com and it turns out I *have* heard techno music before, I just didn't know what it was called. They play this sort of music at my gym a lot and I hate it.

However, I now know exactly what *sort* of techno music I hate (house), and I discovered that there are some other sorts I actually quite like. I listened to four pieces by PPK. "Hey DJ" and "I have a dream" weren't my sort of music at all. "21st Century" was a bit better, at least it didn't send me leaping desperately for the off button after ten seconds, but I really liked "Resurrection." This one was described as "melodic trance" music and it's the melody that makes the difference for me. I also listened to "Trance Formations" and "Evolution" by 303 Infinity and liked them a lot. I'll probably go and listen to other similar music now that I know what it's called.

I don't think any of it is the type of music I would get into listening to for its own sake, but it's pretty good as background music while you're doing something else.

So there you go eric, a sweeping generalisation about a whole musical genre based on hearing six tunes. Thanks, I learned something from it.
