This presents a problem because most of the pumps can only register 99.9 pence. Even the latest ones can only do this because no-one seriously expected the price to go above that level! They naturally want to replace them, but whine that it will take a year to doi them all and it would cost a lot as well. So of course they have to raise the price to pay for the replacement pumps. Vicious circle anyone? > > > Bea 'ting up on yourself may leave your nose twi' sty
Back in the days of yesteryear when we hit that critical $1.00 milestone, I remember that there were a couple of different solutions. All new pumps were naturally 3 digit abled (plus the .9¢), some stations were able to replace their pumps for newer ones within a short amount of time. However, the stations that had a smaller profit margin (I'm speculating here since I never actually took a lookie-look at any of their financial bookie-books) resorted to a much simpler solution. Internally they would crank the price up accordingly, but then on the outside of the display, they'd simply stick a "1" left of the price display. So even though the pump itself might only say "$.029", the little "1" sticker would aid in displaying the true price.
