I knew this would come up sooner or later. :o)
I used to watch TV a lot just to be watching it (my younger brother and sister still do, which worries me). Since I started university my TV watching has dropped to a few hours a week; but my internet use has shot up (I may even be spending more time on the internet now than I did watching TV). I think it's important to note the change in the *kind* of activity, though. With TV, I was just watching. Most of my time on the internet is spent communicating; the thing that draws me back day after day is not "must watch pretty glowing square", it's a desire to keep communicating with people like you guys here, people whose conversation I find interesting and whose opinions I value.
On the other hand, it should perhaps be noted that most of my social life is on the 'net. My real-life social skills, apart from the things that can be carried over from 'net communication, suck. Maybe I should be more worried about this than I am.
