I've seriously been thinking about this for the past prolly half a year. I grew up on TV, we have 8 tv's in our house and only 9 rooms, not including bathrooms. I would watch TV constantly, and I really enjoyed it (and still do), but my family would never agree on what to watch and since we have 8 TV's, there's no reason why we couldn't all just go in seperate rooms and watch what we want. And we did, so we never really got as close as we should have, and we never really learned to talk to eachother, and I still can't really open up to my parents or siblings. I know this isn't all because of TV, but I think that played a major part in it. I have this friend who I really respect, she's really mature, and open, and she really knows what's going on, and she has good long conversations with her parents, and reads, and all that stuff. She also hates TV, I think at least part of this is because she grew up with only one TV and she and her family always watched it together when they did. Well, I met her about a year ago, and since then I've started watching less and less TV. I went from never going in a room and not turning it on to getting a bit irritated when it is on, and I've really been apreciating things and people a lot more. I know this can't be all caused by television, but I think it just makes it a lot easier for people to grow up missing out on things... or something...
