I reply, why dont you get good grades. Because I believe TV is one of the downfalls of society. I am not saying that all the people who have Tv's are bad, but some people abuse the right wayy too much.

I have. . .hrm. . .5 TV's. (6 if you count the one that I use as a video monitor for the security camera over the garage. . . I don't since it doesn't receive any channels ;) 1 is in the family room. One's in the study. One's in the computer room (tho' this is mainly used for video-capture work with my computer. . . ) 1's in the bedroom and one (you all are gonna kill me for this one) is in my van. (hey, it came with it. I didn't do it!) I will admit it's kinda nice when you're on a long road trip, you're not driving, you've already exhausted all conversation, you've read all the books you brought, the magazine, the newspaper, the owner's manual for the van, and even considered reading the proof-of-insurance card to alleviate the boredom, when you realize you can pop in a movie and at least have some form of entertainment. No, the outside view does not count- - - I'm talking about trips through Utah. . texas. . etc. . . .the most boring landscapes in the country are to be found on the interstates in those areas ;)

OK, so I have a boatload of TV's (oops, just realized I have another one in the basement. It's not used though. . it's a 1950's set that belonged to my grandma. . I keep it because it looks cool.) but I don't feel I abuse it. My TV's are mainly on CNN, Discovery, TLC, and of course UPN 9 (only for Voyager ;) I don't watch all the garbage out there that you find on Fox (sorry, watching "good pets go bad" isn't my idea of entertainment).

I think there are two extremes. The family that does nothing but watch TV, and the family that refuses to have a TV. Both have their negative points. The former is obvious, but the family that has no TV is missing out on a good deal- - - current news, educational programming (when's the last time the local paper spent an hour telling you about the lifestyle of an African termite?), etc. IMHO, a happy medium is where you watch TV both for education and recreation, but don't become glued to the set.
