On both, I used the original platters that cam out of them. They have circular tracks from where the read/write heads were contacting the surface and left grooves. My wife said she didn't like the look, but I thought it added character so I left 'em. If you'd rather not have them on I can send you one clean platter with no scratches for the top. It's a fairly simple matter to exchange them out. Just let me know.
