Is anyone else here a fan of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Joe 90 and all those other awesome 1960s all-model cheesefests from Supermarionation?
I just discovered a Thunderbirds goldmine in the children's section of my local video place. The CHILDREN'S section! Gah! Everyone knows that when such shows are more than several decades old, they should be moved to the Cult Classics. Or at least Science Fiction. I've been going to that stupid shop for years and never even knew they were there.
Anyway, I've been going through the whole series in order. Woo hoo! There is nothing about this series that isn't brilliant. I mean, an ENTIRE SHOW that consists of adventure, excitement, good vs evil, wobbly-headed puppet characters and dismal little model spaceships being pulled along on strings! What more could anyone want?
I love how the four brothers in "Thunderbirds" all have different accents and different coloured hair. I love the Indestructible Captain Scarlet vs the Mysterons. I love the way the Thunderbird pilots always responded "F.A.B." to radio transmissions and never told us what the heck it stood for or meant. I love Troy Tempest's lopsided eyebrow (why didn't they FIX that?) and I really love the insanely huge glasses Brains and Joe 90 wore to show how clever they were.
My favourite had to be Agent X-2-Zero, in "Stingray". Just about every single episode, this master of disguise cleverly infiltrated human society to wreak havoc on behalf of those evil fish guys. He was GREEN, for God's sake. He had huge bulging eyes and webbed hands and a fin. But cleverly disguised in a turtleneck sweater, he could move amongst us undetected until Troy Tempest discovered his secret plan and saved the day! Every...single...episode. "Yes, we will hire you as an engineer on our secret project, mysterious green stranger! We need a new one because the last one, who looked remarkably like you, turned out to be an evil green bulging-eyed fish guy!"
