I'm reminded of one ad for toothpaste that I saw a while back; I believe the brand in question was Targon, though I'm not certain. Anyhow, the "testimonial" in the ad went something like this (yes, I'm obviously paraphrasing):

"I'm a smoker, but because I use Brand X Toothpaste, you probably didn't even notice. Do you see any stains on my teeth, or *smell any smoke on my breath*?"

Last time I checked, Smellevision was still a long way away...
