Here's one I learned in college:

You'll need: A fishing hook attached to several feet (at least) of fishing line and a wet wash cloth.
From outside of your "friend's" room, attach the hook to the window screen, somewhere in the corner for less visability. Then pull the line taut. Wrap the cloth around the line a grasp firmly with your free hand. Tightly slide the cloth back and forth along the line. If your doing it right, the moisture should increase the friction on the line causing a slight "rubbing" noise. The sound thenm travels down the line and reverberates off of the entire screen, and the frame, too if it's also metal. Inside the room, they'll hear this strang rubbing/whining noise that they can't quite explain. As long as you stand against the building, they won't even be able to see you when they look outside. I'm not sure just how long the line can be and still remain effective, but I'm sure you could get a good twenty feet or more.

Safety tip: If the hook should break free while the line is taut, turn your face away
Extra safety: Snip off the point and the barb first, just in case. Or just use a small paper clip.
