The secrets are in there, but they are not actually accessible in any way. Otherwise they wouldn't be secrets. One of them, to let the cat out of the bag, is the secret super bonus square at coordinate location (17,-5). If you hit this secret super bonus square, you get 172,992 hit points and a tarnish remover (which makes every silver plate you find thereafter count double).

Another inaccessible secret can be obtained if you make four diagonal moves in a row. In that event, you get a bonus of 1 point, plus a pea shooter that lets you take out monsters in adjacent squares before moving in.
