Actually, a 'cent' is a metric (SI) prefix, not a metric unit. As in "centimeter". It's the same as 10^-2, so a centimeter is 10^-2 meters, or one percent of a meter, if you prefer.

Ka"centicent? Nah, that'd be quite worthless"z!
